Not Forgotten, Reclaimed!

Wanting to keep antiques, collectables, home decor and well being items usable in today’s world of throw away! My idea was to create a hobby to keep me busy while reclaiming and repairing items for use in today’s world!

Reclaimed means less in landfills and more beauty in ones home!

Now it is all about reclaiming, repairing and then spreading the idea through sales and education.

We have become a throw away society unfortunately! My goal is multifold as stated above and hopefully in the near future I will be able to record and post short educational videos on what I have done to an item, where it came from and materials used. Along with this to say how something 50+ years old still has its uses.

I also plan on sharing either by text or video publication the new, as in brand new never used, products are sourced via a great wholesaler. This wholesaler uses as much as possible local communities to produce items in the traditional way. Incense sticks and cones are a great example. Also, if they can’t do that they at least design the products in the UK or with local communities and then have them produced in an appropriate country.

My idea was to create a hobby to keep me busy while reclaiming and repairing items for use in today’s world!

It has evolved into something a wee bit bigger!

I am a 50 something lady who, after being made redundant, took up a hobby of refurbishing and restoring antique and vintage oil lamps. It was my love of tinkering with things to see how they worked along with my wanting to find a very small way of helping the environment. This coupled with other upcycling ideas such as palletcraft, using tree branches to make key racks etc is how
Tinkers Emporium was born!
Initially selling the odd oil lamp or other items once finished with refurbishment or creating and have now gotten to the point that it was time to ‘Go Big or Go Home’ and make a website to create a very small ecommerce business.

From childhood I was always interested in how things work and taking things apart to see how they worked and put them back together.
Because of this my father gave me the knickname of Tinks/Tinkers because
of my ways and interest in mechanical things.
The knickname stuck and those who know me well will call me by it.

When we do refurbishments and sympathetic restorations we try to keep as many originals parts as possible. However, sometimes we need to use other antique parts or New Old Stock (NOS) that come from ‘donor’ items. By donor items, it is simply products where the main part is not salvageable so we salvage, refurbish/repair the good parts to use on other antiques and vintage items. This is mostly true for our antique and vintage oil lamps, pressure lamps and Primus stoves.
